Adding Color, Keeping It Me

For a long time I thought that incorporating color into my outfits meant changing my style.
Today I feel that the exact opposite is happening. When you find a base that represents you, color stops feeling intimidating and begins to become a form of expression.
This year I started by asking myself a question:
If I love looks with personality, with color, those that convey something to you as soon as you see them... why do I always end up wearing safe neutrals?
That question sparked a small mental challenge: learning to incorporate new colors without feeling like I was in costume. Without feeling like I was completely changing my style. Simply adding something that would take me a little out of my comfort zone.
And that's how, a few weeks ago, while browsing different fabric shops in Buenos Aires, I came across a lavender bouclé cloth that I couldn't get out of my head... And it was clearly destined to become a coat 😅
I don't wanna lie...
Five minutes after paying for the fabric, the doubts began:
What if it doesn't match anything afterwards?
What if I get tired?
What if I should have chosen something more neutral?
The purchase was already made, so all that was left was to trust my choice, switch off my mind a bit, and move forward with the project. If you'd like to see the sewing process, the video is available at the bottom of the page :)
The trick that helped me feel this color more like my own
I started by trying not to force the look, not to overthink it... I began with what I usually wear, that outfit I don't have to think much about, that works, fits perfectly, and most importantly, that I feel comfortable in! And from there I incorporated this new color into my everyday look 👇

I combined it with:
An off-white knit sweater with gold buttons.
A white polo shirt with long sleeves.
A pair of blue wide-leg jeans.
Animal print sneakers.
A small dark blue handbag.
And two accessories: a watch my grandmother gave me when I was little ♥️ and a brooch I bought at the San Telmo Flea Market (See vlog)
These are all pieces that are already part of my everyday life; the only new addition is the coat I made a couple of weeks ago. (See vlog)
And I think that's one of the keys to adding something new without feeling like we're playing a character:
Don't change everything at once. Adding one piece is enough.
Here are some other combinations:
Lavender & sky blue

Lavender & light gray

Lavender & black

Lavender & bone

If you've been hesitating about adding a color you love but haven't yet dared to use it, take this as a sign :)
At the end of the day, it's just clothes...
And if we don't come here to try out, play around, and have a little fun with what we use... what did we come here for? hahaha
You can always go back to neutral.
See you next time.
With love,
Cyn
